I. Picking the Work
I. Picking the Work
I started the search for the book I would use for my Critical Research Project by viewing lists of books I found by searching under “books of literary merit” on Google. While visiting many sites I would write down the titles of novels that sounded interesting to me. Once I came up with about five novels I went back to Google and searched the titles and authors of those novels I had selected. I learned what each book was about by reading plot overviews and researched information about the particular authors to learn more about their individual writing style. Once I did this for all five books I choose the one novel and author that intrigued me most. I choose The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton as the novel for my final project. I was drawn to this novel mainly because I am extremely interested and fascinated by the society life in
New York during which this novel set. “In a world of tradition. In an age of innocence. They dared to break the rules.” This is the tag line for the movie produced after this book, and is what really intrigued me to read this novel. The novel follows the lives and relationships of individuals living in a society in which they are forced to live by moral codes, and the more fascinating lives of those who don’t. I have just bought the book and have begun reading the first few pages and am excited to move forward.
The movie created after this book was produced in 1993. The Age of Innocence won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and many other prestigious awards. This production starred Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Winona Ryder.
